S&P Global brings financial skills to AI agents with new plugin
The new S&P Global Plugin for Claude Cowork equips AI agents with ready-made financial skills — from company tearsheets to earnings previews — built directly on S&P Global data.
The way financial professionals interact with data is changing rapidly. Beyond simply running queries or pulling reports, analysts and researchers are delegating tasks to AI agents, building automated workflows, and asking AI models to reason across large bodies of real-time financial information. For S&P Global, that means delivering our essential intelligence to customers wherever they work.
Today, in collaboration with Anthropic, we’re taking a step toward that goal with the launch of the S&P Global Plugin, a suite of financial skills for AI agents and large language models. The skills are like a collection of pre-built prompts, tailor-made for S&P Global customers based on key use cases, designed to help you get more value and work more efficiently with our data on Claude or other agents.
AI skills for key financial workflows
The new finance-specific plugin packages several skills that instruct agents like Claude Cowork on how to complete tasks in a consistent, reproducible way. All of our skills are customizable, which means that firms can use them as a starting point and tailor them to their specific needs.
The initial set of skills within the S&P Global Plugin include:
Company Tearsheets: Agents can generate structured, data-rich company summaries on demand, pulling from S&P Global’s extensive coverage of public and private companies. What historically required manual data assembly across multiple sources can now be completed with a single prompt.
Industry Transaction Summaries: Agents can generate a PowerPoint slide summarizing recent funding rounds, M&A transactions, and capital markets activity across selected industry segments with data sourced from S&P Capital IQ.
Earnings Previews: Agents can generate a research report covering a company’s recent performance, competitor landscape, consensus estimates, and key themes to watch in upcoming earnings, sourced from S&P Capital IQ.
While this plugin is unique to Claude Cowork, these S&P Global skills are model-agnostic and can be leveraged through any agentic platform to maximize data value. We’re working to make additional agentic skills available, including capabilities for valuation modeling, M&A transaction analysis, and more.
Built on Kensho’s LLM-ready foundation
This launch builds on S&P Global and Kensho’s existing collaboration with Anthropic, at the core of which is our MCP connector that integrates Claude with the Kensho LLM-ready API.
The Kensho LLM-ready API allows clients to query a range of S&P Global datasets with natural language (including S&P Capital IQ Financials, S&P Capital IQ Estimates, Earnings Call Transcripts, Company Intelligence, and Private Company Financials) through their GenAI application of choice. We’re continuing to enhance the solution with even more capabilities and datasets.
The financial workflow skills released today through the S&P Global Plugin are a more structured agentic approach to what we’ve offered clients from the moment we launched the Kensho LLM-ready API: advanced instructions and prompts to help customers maximize the business value of S&P Global data and work more efficiently with our data across the GenAI applications they already use. And we’ll continue to develop the skills catalog across S&P Global’s data domains, including additional coverage of company research, financial modeling, and investment analysis workflows.
These enhancements continue to build on our ongoing collaboration with Anthropic and our work to ensure that customers can make the most of S&P Global’s trusted data and insights wherever they need them. Earlier this month, for instance, Anthropic also announced extended MCP connector support to the Claude add-ins for Excel and PowerPoint, so S&P Global customers can now pull trusted intelligence directly into AI-driven spreadsheet and presentation workflows.
